Jesse Burchwell

Executive Director (volunteer)

support@angelsinaction.org

Mr. Burchwell volunteered to be our Executive Director to help other veterans, their families, children, and the underprivileged. Mr. Burchwell manages the day-to-day operations and continues to search for ways for us to help others. Mr. Burchwell is a Veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1987-1992, during Desert Storm. After his service, Mr. Burchwell joined and eventually retired from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. Shortly after 9/11, Mr. Burchwell had a strong desire to serve still, he again volunteered for a little-known Department of Defense program that embedded law enforcement with military units about to deploy. Mr. Burchwell deployed twice to Iraq with the United States Army and twice to Afghanistan with the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Burchwell is married to his amazing, loving wife, Tammy Burchwell. Between them, they share six adult children and one grandson. Mr. and Mrs. Burchwell love hiking, kayaking, traveling, and participating in 5k’s. They participate in the annual “Honor the Fallen 5k” among others. Mr. Burchwell’s family continues to serve others, with his son being a veteran and his wife, son, and stepdaughter all serving the police department in some sort of capacity.

Sonja Hanna

Coordinator of Membership Support

s.hanna@angelsinaction.org

Sonja is a compassionate individual who has a deep desire to assist those in need. Her passion for serving others stems from her late mother, who passed away in November 2021. Her mother was a Veteran who served in the United States Air Force for over two decades. Moved by her mother's selflessness, Sonja has dedicated her life to helping Veterans and their families, as well as underprivileged children. Sonja has a long line of family members who have served in the military, including her son, who recently joined the US Navy. He has graduated from NAS Pensacola and is about to embark on his journey on the sea. Sonja herself graduated from Volunteer State Community College, where she earned a degree in medical practice business management. She then spent a decade working for a company that provided medical equipment such as nebulizers, CPAP machines, hospital beds, and oxygen to those in need. After gaining valuable experience in the medical field, Sonja joined Patriot Angels, where she helped Veterans and their families obtain Aid & Attendance for five years. When an opportunity arose at Angels in Action, Sonja eagerly took it, knowing that it would allow her to help Veterans and children in need. Sonja is happily married to her best friend and beloved husband, Charles Hanna, and the couple shares three children ranging in age from nine to twenty-four years old. They are also grandparents to two lively grandchildren, ages two and three, who keep them on their toes.
